The Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona is committed to making the information, programmes and activities on its websites accessible to the largest possible number of users in line with the legislation on accessibility to public sector websites and web applications for mobile devices.
This legislation applies to the website https://www.uab.cat. The subdomains of the website might have their own declarations on accessibility.
Situation of compliance
This website conforms partially to Royal Decree 1112/2018, of 7 September as a result of the exceptions and lack of conformity of some of the aspects which are outlined below.
Actions carried out
To achieve this objective the UAB takes as its starting point compliance with the Steps for accessibility for 2.1 website content established by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).
Some of the functions implemented on the UAB website to allow access to the content are:
- Use of HTML and CSS code adjusted to formal grammars to guarantee that content can be viewed on different browsers.
- A section at the beginning of each web page which allows you to jump directly to the accessible sections using the keyboard or screen readers that allow you to go directly to the section of interest.
- The pages are clearly set out with headings at the top of each section which allow you to go directly to the section of interest.
- Font size is defined in relative units making it possible to enlarge or decrease the letters using the browser options. Text can be enlarged up to 300% without disappearing from the screen.
- Most of the web can be browsed using the keyboard.
- Most of the web can be browsed using a screen reader.
It may be the case that some specific text on the https://www.uab.cat website published after 20 September 2018 do not comply with the requirements stipulated in the Royal decree 1112/2018 as a results of editing errors in some of the pages. This may be the case with HTML content or final documents.
In terms of content within the applicable legislation, there may be files in PDF or other formats published after 20 September 2018 that do not fulfil all the accessibility requirements:
- Some pages and attachments are not written clearly.
- Some tables do not have headings.
- Some pages do not have sufficient colour contrast.
- Some headings are inconsistent.
- Some images do not have alternative text.
Preparation of the declaration of accessibility
This declaration of accessibility was prepared on 16 September 2020. The method used was a self-evaluation carried out by the UAB. An external evaluation is also planned.

In the case that your request for accessible information or a complaint you have submitted has been denied, or you do not agree with the decision taken or the response does not comply with current legal requirements, you have the right to begin a claims process in accordance with Article 13 of Royal Decree 1112/2018, which will be addressed to the Web Unit. You can submit your claim at the General Register Office in person, or online by filling in the “Generic Request" form found under the "Tràmits" section of the UAB's Electronic Headquarters (Seu electrònica).
We are continuing to carry out audit and consultancy work to correct any possible unconformities and ensure full accessibility to the website to enable its use by anyone regardless of their capacities.
UAB commitment to accessibility
The website of the UAB has been built with the aim of facilitating universal access for everyone who wishes to consult it regardless of their physical, sensorial or cognitive capacities and the context in which they are using it (type of device, software, connection speed, environmental conditions, etc.).
We are there working towards adapting the entire website following the recommendations of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) to remove barriers to accessing information. These recommendations are set out in the accessibility guidelines on WCAG 2.1 website. The commitment of the UAB is to fulfil the Double-A (AA) level of conformity as required in public administration under European and State legislation.
Directive (EU) 2016/2102 of the European Parliament and Council of 26 October 2016 established the rules for member states to ensure all websites and mobile applications, independently of the device used, in the public sector comply with the accessibility requirements under rule EN 301 549 v2.1.2 (August 2018), on adequate accessibility requirements for public contracting of ICT goods and services in Europe.
Rule EN 301 549 v2.1.2 is principally based on the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, of August 2018. However, it also has other additional, obligatory and conditional requirements.
The directive binding but not directly applicable and so on the state level Royal decree 1112/2018 of 7 September, on accessibility to websites and mobile devices in the public sector, was drawn up to set out the scope and the minimum requirements.
